Bump In The Road

So I took some time the other day and got all the purple heart planed to thickness and ready to go for the new SET amp. Then, when I was checking all the layouts, I discovered a problem.

As it turns out I didn’t pay close enough attention to the internal layout when I was doing the chassis design and there was some physical interference. Specifically, one of the speaker connections was going to end up at the same place as the first power supply filter cap. Obviously a little chassis redesign was in order.

So I squeezed a few things, moved a couple of others, and now I don’t think I should have any problems. Here is the new layout for the front and back of the 6AS7 SET amp.

The background metal on the front is brushed copper plate just like The 6DJ8 Headphone Amp and the plates on the back are aluminum painted black.

Now that I have the layouts corrected, I need to get back to work on completing the chassis. More to come.

  1. If it happens on paper, it is merely a “design refinement”. If it happens in wood or metal, it could be a bump in the road, or even a massive sinkhole.
Good that you caught it early.
