I was looking at the new power transformer from Edcor for the latest project today. This is the one I talked about in my posts Failings of Memory and Weirdness with Edcor Order. I noticed a change in the new transformer. However this change I consider an upgrade.
Here is a picture of the new power transformer side-by-side with a GXSE10 output transformer that’s been in my stash for some time.
Notice the difference?
The Edcor transformers used to have the Edcor logo applied with a transparent sticker. The edges of the sticker are clearly visible on the GXSE10 on the left. The new transformer actually has the Edcor logo printed directly on the end bell. The new logo is very clean and sharp.
Personally I think the new painted logo looks substantially better. Especially in person. Frankly I always found the stickers looking a little tacky. I usually pealed them off on most of my projects. If you look back at some of my projects you’ll see the classic Edcor blue (Gentian Blue, RAL5010) but not the logo. But the new look will definitely be an upgrade.
My only decision in the case of the new project will be how to handle the mismatch. I’ll have a power transformer with the beautiful new logo and output transformers with the old sticker logos. Maybe I’ll just pull the stickers off the outputs like always and let the logo on the power transformer stand out. Anyone have any opinions on this?
And while on the topic of the new amplifier, I got the second coat of paint on the top plate this morning. The finish looks pretty good. So I’ll give the paint at least 48 hours to really set up then I can start populating the top plate.
As always, questions and comments are welcome.

Have you asked if Edcor would sell you a couple of shiny new end bells with the painted logo? They do sell end bells. Removing the stickers and just having the one painted logo would look clean too.
I suppose I could ask. I wonder what they’d charge.
Looks like $23.43 for two in Edcor blue. But I don’t know if I could get them with the Edcor logo printed on them.
Yeah I think you may have to call or email them for that.
